Just 21 homes have SAVED over 60 tonnes CO2
50 households have now benefited from free home energy surveys
21 have also reported their fuel bill savings one year later, and have saved up to 7 tonnes, together saving over 56 tonnes. That’s an average of 18 %, well done!
This doesn’t take into account savings that you have not told us about. So don’t be shy, join in and find out the size of your carbon footprint.
John and Heather saved nearly 7 tonnes (and over £800)
These are some of the simple things they have done:
- Brought loft insulation up to standard
- Installed a wood burning stove with external air supply (cutting out draughts)
- Turned down thermostat by 20C
- Lowered hot water temperature and ‘on’ time
- Replaced 8 100w bulbs with low energy bulbs
- Preferentially used 50+ mpg car
John and Sarah also saved nearly 7 tonnes whilst adding another member to the household.
- Started to insulate their walls internally with Sempatap
- Bought A++ replacement deep freezer
- Installed low energy light bulbs in all possible fittings
- Found out how much energy appliances used on standby by borrowing the Energy Monitor, and now regularly check things are not left on
- Reduced car mileage and took no flights this year
Sarah and Dale saved over 6.5 tonnes with a family of four
- Installed loft and wall insulation
- Replaced fridge and dish washer with ‘A’ rated
- Regularly check things not left on standby
- Reduced car mileage and upgraded car from 28 to 42 mpg
- Reduced number and distance of flights
You can’t know much fuel you use, your savings or the size of your carbon footprint unless you measure it. Start now by adding up last year's.
Did you know…
that replacing an old fridge or freezer with a low energy one delivers more energy savings than energy efficient lighting and saves more carbon dioxide than double glazing or loft insulation!
An ‘A++’ rated fridge or freezer uses approximately half the energy of an ‘A’ rated.
We are hoarding 11.7 million outdated cold appliances in UK homes, needlessly wasting £900 million of electricity a year. If this includes you, the January sales could be a good time to change.

Energy Saving Gold Stars go to 3 medium size households using only 1000 litres of oil or lpg
per year(2.65tns CO2). Nearly 2.5 tns less than the national average for heating
