Little Wenlock C Red this Christmas

Some tips from the Carbon Reduction team to help cut fuel bills and help Little Wenlock reduce its well-above-average carbon footprint.

Turn down your thermostat 1 degree C, and wear a Christmas sweater to save 10% of your fuel.

Need new Christmas lights? Consider an ultra low energy LED set. A 50 bulb set uses just 9w compared to 100w for others.

Does someone you know need an energy saving gift? PowerDown plugs turn off printer and modem etc. when computer is turned off.

Roast the Christmas vegetables in the oven or use a pan divider to use less pans and less energy.

Make Christmas washing-up easier Soak it in a bowl of water while you put your feet up. Another bowl for rinsing will avoid running them under the tap.

Real Christmas trees reduce carbon. The young trees grown for xmas absorb carbon dioxide. If we don’t buy them, growers won’t grow them. Then burn it efficiently on someone’s wood burning stove.

If your fridge or freezer is over 15 years old, plan a trip to the January sales for an ‘A’ rated replacement.

Save Christmas Cards for the Village paper bank, and wrapping paper for reuse, or for lighting the woodburner

Going away this Christmas?
Don’t forget to turn down your thermostat, and reduce timed ‘on’ hours. Use low energy bulbs in any lights left on for security, but check standbys are off.
