Cavity Wall Insulation

John & Julie Corley - well impressed with Cavity Wall Insulation

Our house is only 12 years old, but it has always seemed cold.

We installed a woodburner which has been great in the sitting room, but not done much to warm the rest of the house.

So last year we decided to check the insulation and found that the loft needed topping up and the cavity walls had not been insulated.

We got these both done in March last year and now we only need the heating on for a couple of hours in the evening to warm the whole house, which then stays warm though until the next evening except in really cold weather.

We are really impressed as the house is also cooler in the summer and we have cut our heating bill by 1700 litres of oil since 2005 (approx £600 when it’s 35p) with half the savings made by installing the woodburner and half from the insulation.

We were also impressed by the company that did it, they did a super job, the walls were drilled and filled leaving no mess and little evidence of where it was done. You are welcome to come and see!

Most homes built since the war have cavities that can be insulated, saving £150 per year or more by preventing heat loss.

Grants are available to all, reducing the price to start at just £150 for a 3 bedroom semi for either loft or wall insulation.

Insulation is free to anyone over 70 years old or on benefits. Call the Energy Saving Trust advice centre on 0800 512012, or John & Julie on 630162 for more information.

Did you know: the peak in electricity demand during the tv adverts means that coal fired power stations are kept ticking over whilst waiting for us to turn on the kettle. Thus wastefully producing an estimated 21 million tonnes of CO2 every year.

We could all help to reduce these peaks and the pollution by:
