Well done Dot, Jo and Pat - September 2009

For the second year running Miss Dorothy Knott has been awarded the Margaret Eaton Challenge Cup for gaining the highest amount of points in the Cookery Section of the Broseley and District Horticultural and Craft Show. Dot's Shrewsbury biscuits won a first prize, her ginger cake a second prize and her fruit cake a second prize in their respective classes. In the Hand Made Toy class her exquisitely dressed doll carried off the first prize. Jo Hamilton won a second prize for her marmalade and in the photographic classes Pat Hutchings was awarded a first and two third prizes.

Sue Bates wins top award

Sue Bates

A resident of Little Wenlock and a long serving Shropshire health practice manager, Sue Bates has won a top national award for her work at Sutton Hill Medical Centre.

She beat off competition from across the UK to be named as the 2007 National Practice Manager of the year, at a gala dinner in Hammersmith on May 3rd.

The award was presented by Andy Burnham, Minister of State (see right).

The judging panel described Sue as “An immensely influential and capable manager, who with determination and compassion, has achieved a huge amount in a deprived area”.

Janet Crisp, the surgery’s primary care development manager who nominated Sue for the award, said

“Sue is a shining light, and the practice is always spot-on. She is an excellent role model”

Congratulations and well done Sue, the village is proud of your achievements.

WI success at local shows in 2008

Congratulations to Miss Dorothy Knott who won six prizes at the Broseley Show. Her clown won first prize in the soft toy section, her ginger cake won a first prize, and her Shrewsbury biscuits second prize in the cookery section, where she also won a cup for gaining the highest overall points. In addition, her rose won a second prize and she was awarded two candle sticks for being the entrant with the highest points who has never won a major trophy before.

Mrs Jo Hamilton carried off a first prize for her marmalade and a second prize for her sponge.

At the Horsehay show, Mrs Rosemary Carter's black currant jam won first prize.

Daily Mail National Gardens Winners

Congratulations to Fiona and George Chancellor of "Windy Ridge", in winning the Daily Mail National Gardens competition for 2008. For those of us who have watched their dedication and enthusiasm in creating the garden over the last 23 years will know that it is a highly deserved recognition of all their hard work.
