Congratulations to Debbie Hugh of The Mount, Buildwas Lane, who has recently achieved a number of sporting successes.

In the 2010 -2011 season, she was ranked number one in the world rankings in her age group for a rowing marathon over a distance of 26.2 miles in 3 hours 13 minutes.

In July she did something few women do by completing an Ironman Triathlon in 14 hrs 29 minutes. This involved a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle ride and then a full marathon of 26.2 miles. Then just to finish off the season, in September 2011 she completed a half Ironman.

Ken Jones collects MBE from Queen Elizabeth

Ken Jones, a well respected resident of Little Wenlock, received an MBE from Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday December 7th 2010, has spoken of his "unforgettable experience".

At the age of 88 years, he was named in the Birthday Honours List in recognition of 40 years service to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and to the Friends of the Museum.

Ken set up an audio history group 30 years ago to collect stories of people who lived in the area in the early 1900's, recording them talking about their lives, working practices and conditions.

He said "It was certainly a day that I will remember for the rest of my life, an unforgettable experience. The Queen told me that she had been to Ironbridge Gorge, and remembered it well"

Ken who has written many books about the county, said that local history and the people of the area had driven him on to continue his work.

His IGMT colleagues and his many friends in our village, are proud of Ken's achievement which is richly deserved.
