Bob and Diane Justham's Self Build Project

Bob and Diane Justham commenced their fabulous self-build house project in December 2001, and substantially completed by the end of September 2003. Their property, knows as 'Treetops', is located at the foot of the north face of The Wrekin, in Ercall Lane.

Bob and Diane have produced a website where details of the project can be seen, including photographs at the various stages of completion.

Brighter Village Verges

Planting our roadside verges with flowers was the most popular project idea to emerge from a newsletter feedback on how we could best invest our £1000 Village of the Year winnings and the prioritisation exercise run at a well-attended Parish Open Meeting in 2006.

Following this, the Parish Council examined verge-planting options and opportunities with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust who have considerable experience in this area. The aim was to  establish how best to move forward creating floral displays which really complement our local countryside.

As well as brightening-up the approaches to the village, planting can contribute to maintaining and increasing local plant biodiversity.

Sadly, over recent years, we seem to have lost far too many of the primroses, cowslips and other superb wild-flowers that used to grace our lanes. What a wonderful opportunity it will be to turn this particular clock back a little!

In June 2008, the first stage of planting flowers in the village verges commenced. The verges were treated with weedkiller prior to the removal of turf. Spring bulbs together with wild flower turf including cowslips and other native local flowers will be laid.

With the onset of Spring 2009, the verges seen on the sides of the roads entering the village are a colourful sight with the early daffodils coming into flower. Later in the year we can look forward to a range of wildflowers providing a superb display.
