Open Gardens Weekend 2008
- including helicopter and pony rides
Yet another successful Open Gardens weekend, which this year was attended by 600 visitors.
Hundreds of people enjoyed the clear views of the borough and around the Wrekin from helicopter rides which took off from Spout Lane Little Wenlock.
These flights were a novel and extremely popular attraction.
Also, for the first time ever the Friends of St Lawrence event featured pony rides for children.

This year, there were 13 enthusiastically displayed gardens for visitors to see –including several new offerings from last year.
There was also a specialist nursery selling top quality plants, and a treasure hunt that kept the kids occupied.
There were plenty of refreshments including bacon rolls, pub lunches in the Huntsman Inn and delicious homemade teas. The events organiser George Chancellor said
"It was a great success, and it was estimated that the funds raised for St Lawrence Church would exceed last year's total of £2000.
We are exhausted, but it is always worth it."
Please note:
After seven consecutive years, our Gardens Weekend is taking a well earned break during 2009.
A number of our houses and gardens are undergoing the sort of renovation that would make opening difficult. at the same time, so many local villages seem to be following our lead these days that the summer calendar is getting rather over-full with such events. And, quite frankly, it would be good for many of us to have a year off from all the organisation involved - particularly George and Fiona Chancellor. It is hoped that everyone will understand the decision to "take a holiday", and very much look forward to reinvigorating the event in future years - under a similar or different model.
