Over 60s LunchClub
This years Xmas Lunch was held on 15th December 2009 in the Village Hall for the over 60's residents. Carol, together with her many volunteer helpers, provided a fabulous meal to the very high standard we are fortunate to receive as part of this exclusive gathering. Santa Claus paid a visit, and distributed gifts to all who prepared and served traditional Christmas fayre. The members of the over 60's Lunch Club extend their appreciation for all of the meals provided on a monthly basis throughout the year.
Here are the photos - you can read about the club on our clubs page here.

Little Wenlock Harvest Celebration
Do join our special community harvest celebrations on Sunday September 27th and raise much-needed funds for Self Help Africa.
Refurbishments prevented us holding our annual St Lawrence harvest festival last year and we don’t have a community produce show. So we thought we’d do something special this autumn to celebrate our green-fingered community and support local, dedicated charity, Self Help Africa (which has recently grown out of Wellington-based Harvest Help).
Displays of locally-grown flowers, fruit and vegetables by all our main community groups will be on show in church throughout the day.
A special children’s Vegetable Creatures competition will be run, with prizes for all entries presented at our informal 11.00 am family service at which the produce displays will be unveiled.
Tea and home-made cakes will be served following the service from 11.45, giving everyone the chance to get thoroughly refreshed while viewing the displays and creatures.
A special collection will be taken for Self Help Africa during the service and cash donations or cheques (payable to St Lawrence PCC, Little Wenlock) accepted from visitors at any time.
Please join us if you can, even if Church isn’t your ‘thing’.
In celebrating our community’s good fortune, we want to raise St Lawrence’s new roof with some favourite hymns and as much funding as we can for those in such desperate need across Africa.

The Mark Tansley Five-a-side Football Tournament.
Eight teams took part in the tournament which took place on 17th May. The winners were the Horsehay Crew and the runners up were Peter Howell's Crew.
Despite the weather a great afternoon took place and £238 was raised.
Grateful thanks are expressed to Giles Bates for donating the trophy and medals, to Pete Knight for the barrel of beer and to all who supported the running of the event.
Tour of Britain Cycle Race
On 10th September 2008 the Tour of Britain Cycle Race sprinted through our village.
Stage 4 of the race started in Worcester, and travelled through Wolverhampton, Ironbridge, Little Wenlock, Wrekin, Newport before finishing in Stoke on Trent.
Sixteen teams of riders with 6 cyclists in each team were entered from several countries.
A popular spot for seeing the competitors was along the edges of Malthouse Bank and onto “The Huntsman”, where they had slowed due to the steep climb.
Many enthusiasts and local interested villagers turned out to cheer them on.
As they came through Little Wenlock, the leading breakaway group of 10 cyclists had a 1.38 minute lead on the chasing pack.
The eventual winner of Stage 4 was Edvald Boasson Hagen from Norway who completed 156 km in 3 hours 36 minutes.

Little Wenlock Wander 12 July 2008
Following the first successful event held in 2007 where 57 participants raised a total of £228, this year's "Little Wenlock Wander" will take place on 12th July 2008.
There will be a choice of two scenic routes, the first of 14 miles and the second less demanding of 8 miles suitable for walkers and runners, both beginning and ending in the village of Little Wenlock.
The routes are set in the Ironbridge and Buildwas area, with many points of interest along the way following local paths and tracks. The longer route also includes an ascent of The Wrekin.
Registration at the village Hall. Start times are between 8.00am and Noon. Dogs welcome.
Entrance fee - £5.00 per person. All proceeds go to St Lawrence Church, Little Wenlock

Christmas Fair
This year's Christmas fair was held on Saturday 5th December 2009 at 2.30 pm. There was a variety of stalls from bric-a-brac, fancy goods and books to cards, toys, Christmas food and cakes, with tombolas and a variety of games as well as the Grand Christmas Draw, and Father Christmas was there in his grotto with presents for children of all ages. This year's star prize was a Christmas hamper kindly donated by the W.I.
Thanks to all who worked so hard to make the event such a success, and to everyone who came and freely spent their money, raising a net total of £1482.18.
Proceeds will be divided equally between Little Wenlock Village Hall & Playing Field, and St. Lawrence's Church.

The Little Wenlock Wheeze is an annual event that welcomes visitors as well as involving villagers and raising funds for local projects.
Generally, it attracts over 50 runners from under 25’s to the over 60’s.
Around 20 volunteers are involved in registration, marshalling, timekeeping and refreshments, co-ordinating events from the village hall and playing field.
The 8th running of the Little Wenlock Wheeze took place on Sunday, 13th September 2009 when 54 people entered.
The weather was sunny and warm on the day, making the wheeze quite a challenge over an undulating course of approximately 6 kilometers.
1st was Robin Sedman-Smith of Telford A C in a time of 24:09 with 1st lady Amanda Purves of Newport and District R C in 31:50.
The first male villager home was Ed Christie and Ceri Christie was the first lady.
Many athletes from across the country came to run this year with entries from a number of athletics clubs including Newport and District R C, Telford A C, Telford Harriers, Shrewsbury A C, Bridgnorth A C, Wrekin Road Runners, Mercia Fellrunners and Eyri Harriers
It is good to see so many athletes travelling to run this challenging course around our beautiful countryside.
Next year we hope to run the event again on Sunday, 12th September 2010 at 11 am and the organisers would like to see more local people take up the challenge.
A big thank you to all who helped make this event so successful – a total of £500 was raised towards the village hall and playing field.
