Broadband Reception

I attended a meeting on Monday 10th November 2008 called by Little Wenlock Parish Council to discuss the “Parish Plan”. One item that arose, related to Broadband reception problems experienced by parishioners. I was able to advise the meeting that I also had had problems with inconsistent connection service, but contrary to the many opinions voiced of there being a faulty BT line to the village, in my case a change in service provider gave an instantaneous and sustained improvement.

During many months of frustrating Broadband supply failure for days and occasionally weeks at a time, I had complained to my Service Provider, who advised me that the problem was related to a poor BT line. I had already ensured that the incoming BT line was connected first of all to the Broadband modem and any telephone land-lines were then spurred subsequently. THIS IS ESSENTIAL. My service provider suggested that I call out BT to check the incoming line, but I would be liable to considerable call out charges if no fault was found.

At this stage I decided to change my service provider to “Talk Talk”
(See http://www.talktalk.co.uk), who supplied a competitive package including national and international land line telephone calls, a modem and up to 8 Mb Broadband connection. On 27th October 2007 I transferred to Talk Talk, and had an immediate and sustained improvement that has continued to the present day.

I hope that my experience has been of some benefit to others in the village who are suffering similar problems. Please add your comments – hopefully this will assist in arriving at a community solution to the problem of Broadband reception.

I attended the Little Wenlock Parish Council meeting on the 10th November, 2008 to listen to the discussion on the update of the Parish Plan.

Although this was supposed to be a Parishioners participation meeeting I was disappointed to see that most of the Councillors did not face those attending, which in turn made it almost impossible to hear the discussion and comments from the Councillors.

After speaking to other Parishioners who attended the meeting I was not the only person who could not hear what was being said. I believe it would have been far better for the Councillors to have sat facing those present rather than each other.

There is little point in Parishioners attending these meetings if they cannot hear the responses from the Councillors.

I was also disappointed at the poor turn out of Parishioners to this meeting considering the Parish Plan should be of interest and concern to all Parishioners. ( I understand there was approximately 17 people present!).

Please, if you haven’t returned your survey on broadband reception in the village, there’s still time (23/2/09). This could really help us to campaign for better reception.
