Little Wenlock Carbon Reduction Action Group Newsletter
(Aiming to reduce our carbon emissions)
John has been lining his walls with Sempatap Thermal
What is it? It is a quarter inch thick layer of foam insulation with a fibreglass layer to the room side. It comes in a roll 12.5 metres long by 1 metre wide and is attached to the wall by an adhesive similar to copydex. Once on the wall the joints are sealed with sealant and the wall is then ready for papering, painting or even tiling.
Is it expensive? Each roll cost me £136.30 with adhesive £22.79 and sealant at £5.40 to date I have done all but the kitchen (ie living room, bathroom and three bedrooms) using 5 rolls. I obtained various discounts through the energy efficiency advice centre and obtained the brochures
from them originally.
Next C Red meeting: Mondy 20th October, 8pm in the pub, come and join us

Speeding drivers have always been a concern within the Parish of Little Wenlock. The concerns have been over the speed of traffic along Wellington Road in Little Wenlock village and the high speed of some vehicles on the rural roads and narrow rural lanes.
The problems have been caused by some of the reasons listed below:
Speed in excess of the posted speed limit.
Speed inappropriate for the residential areas – 30 mph is the maximum speed allowed, not a target to aim at. Within the village a much lower speed is appropriate.
Aggressive driving.
Intimidating driving.
Reckless driving.
Driving with no thought for the needs of other road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, or even free-roaming animals.
The Parish Council, West Mercia Constabulary and Telford and Wrekin Borough Council are working closely together to try to reduce the number of speeding and inconsiderate drivers.
There are two initiatives taking place during 2008 to effect this change. The first is a speed activated 30mph sign which was placed on Wellington Road for a short period of time. The second is the Quiet Lanes Project which aims to reduce the level of speed on all the rural roads and lanes. Further information and consultation will take place regarding this project.
We must all play our part in helping to reduce the level of speeding and make our roads safer for all users. To that end we would ask all local drivers to think about the speeds they drive at within the parish, to reduce their speed and hopefully make our roads even safer.

The Little Wenlock Wheeze is an annual event that welcomes visitors as well as involving villagers and raising funds for local projects.
Generally, it attracts over 50 runners from under 25’s to the over 60’s.
This year’s event started at 11.00 am on Sunday September 14th, and 73 entries were registered which was well up on last year’s entries.
Although the weather was fine on the day, the terrain was very muddy following rains during recent weeks, which made this year’s Wheeze quite a challenge.
Rob Hughes of Telford Athletic Club was the first finisher in a time of 22 minutes 23 seconds, and the fastest female was Alison Lavender of Oswestry Olympians who finished in 24 minutes 54 seconds.
Little Wenlock’s very own Eddie and Ceri Christie once again put in a commendable performance.
All proceeds will go to Little Wenlock Village Hall.
It’s not too soon to start training for next year’s “Wheeze”.
For further details contact either Don & Sue Bates 505320 or Ceri & Eddie Christie 501892.

On 10th September 2008 the Tour of Britain Cycle Race sprinted through our village.
Stage 4 of the race started in Worcester, and travelled through Wolverhampton, Ironbridge, Little Wenlock, Wrekin, Newport before finishing in Stoke on Trent.
Sixteen teams of riders with 6 cyclists in each team were entered from several countries.
A popular spot for seeing the competitors was along the edges of Malthouse Bank and onto “The Huntsman”, where they had slowed due to the steep climb.
Many enthusiasts and local interested villagers turned out to cheer them on.
As they came through Little Wenlock, the leading breakaway group of 10 cyclists had a 1.38 minute lead on the chasing pack.
The eventual winner of Stage 4 was Edvald Boasson Hagen from Norway who completed 156 km in 3 hours 36 minutes.
